Pine Ridge Man Sentenced for Striking a Woman in the Face

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Pine Ridge man charged with Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury was sentenced on March 8, 2012, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Curtis Swift Bird, age 55, was sentenced to 19 months' imprisonment, 3 years' supervised release, and a $100 assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

In February 2011, Swift Bird hit a woman in the face, breaking her nose badly enough to require surgery. He pled guilty on December 12, 2011.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case.

Swift Bird was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
